Bay County Riverwalk & Railtrail
Since our establishment in 1982 the Bay Area Community Foundation has proudly initiated and funded projects improving the quality of life in Bay County with none more conspicuously than our own Riverwalk and Railtrail System. This interconnected 17.5 mile network of pedestrian walkways provides non-motorized, handicapped-accessible pathways linking the full range of our community landscapes; from Bay City’s highly popular riverfront at Veteran’s Memorial Park, to the City’s center, and back out again through woodlands and marshes to agricultural and residential areas of Portsmouth, Hampton and Bangor Townships. Our most recent trail extension links the Bay City loop northwesterly to the Bay City State Recreation Area.
Thousands of residents and visitors alike walk, run, ride or blade our trails every year and for good reason. Imagine – no fees and unlimited access to fresh air, striking scenery and all varieties of parks, shops and activities along the trail. Jump on where you want, jump off when you wish. Convenient parking is available throughout the area and is clearly marked on all trail maps.
