Arts & Culture

  • Thanks to our generous donors, Bay Area Community Foundation awarded 64 grants during the first grant cycle to organizations in our community that support arts and culture, community initiatives, environment, education, health and wellness, human services, and recreation.

  • When Avram Golden sees an idea to better his community, he goes for it. Because he took actions to make his visions become a reality, Bay City now proudly flies American Flags downtown each summer, and residents and visitors enjoy what is fondly known as the Third Street Star Bridge.

  • Bay Area Community Foundation is deeply saddened to lose one of our community's boldest leaders. Peggy Rowley passed away peacefully on New Year's Eve and will be missed by many. It is thanks to Peggy that the Bay Area Community Foundation exists.

  • On May 5, Bay Area Community Foundation hosts a 24-hour online giving day at www.givelocalbay.org to raise funds for nonprofits in Bay and Arenac counties. With $25,000 in incentive funds and an additional $3,000 in potential prizes for nonprofits, it’s a celebration when your gift goes further. Especially this year, when so many nonprofits have had to cancel fundraising events and others are working hard to ensure our families are fed and cared for, it’s a great time to show your community that you care.

  • Grants from the Community Initiative Fund and Youth Advisory Committee allowed new student artwork under the Veteran's Memorial Bridge.

  • From closed offices and cancelled fundraising events to adaptive programming for the digital landscape, we know that our local nonprofits are feeling the effects of COVID-19 in varying ways, both big and small. Perhaps operations have already shifted, or perhaps you're only starting to experience the longer-term implications. Here at the Community Foundation, we are listening and working through ways to best serve you. Know that the work you do is important and that together, we will see our community through this.

  • After his mother passed away, Guy Greve created a donor advised fund to honor her memory and their shared love of the arts. The Rita Greve Fund for Art in Public Places awards grants to projects meant to beautify and enrich our community’s outdoor spaces.

  • With a grassroots, organic effort, dedicated volunteers in Arenac County are preserving the local history of Omer’s Ye Olde Courthouse far into the future..

  • Arts and culture opportunities connect people of all ages and backgrounds to create a vibrant community.
