Thanks for helping raise more than $144,000 for our nonprofit community!
Wow. You helped make history on May 5 with our biggest giving day yet! We can’t thank you enough!
Our sixth annual Give Local Bay raised more than $144,000 for local nonprofit organizations. In 2019, $50K was raised by the community. This year, more than $116K was raised by the community and matched with $28,000 from the Bay Area Community Foundation in incentive funds and prizes. These dollars help respond to immediate needs and help build long-term growth for some of our greatest community assets.
“Give Local Bay provided a way for us to unite in a positive way as a community. The generosity and the outpouring of support we saw is a recognition and celebration of the critical work our nonprofits do day in and day out. Great things happen when we come together,” said Diane Fong, president and CEO of the Bay Area Community Foundation.
Throughout the day, individuals made donations online and over the phone to support their favorite organizations. While an initial goal of $55,000 was set ($5k more than last year), new goals had to be set as donors helped surpass each one.
The Bay Area Community Foundation provided an additional $25,000 incentive pool as well as $3,000 in additional fund prizes. The organizations that raised the most money during the event are BaySail, Bay City Players, and Ye Olde Courthouse/Arenac County Historical Society. Final leaderboards can be viewed at www.givelocalbay.org.
Unique to this year, more than $4,000 was also raised for the COVID-19 Community Response Fund at the Bay Area Community Foundation which is awarding grants to local nonprofits to help the people and families who are most impacted by the pandemic and the economic consequences of the outbreak.
Bay City Rowing Club won the LiUNA-Local 1098 sponsor prize by being the first to surpass $1,098 in online gifts. Bay City Hall Maintenance Fund won the “Most Creative Post” prize for a video the City of Bay City produced about coming together to support the community. You can view the video on the Bay City Government’s Facebook page.
The Bay Area Community Foundation would like to thank presenting sponsor LiUNA—Local 1098; prize sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; community sponsors Fifth Third Bank, McLaren Bay Region, Rowley’s Wholesale, and Warner Norcross + Judd; and the community for their incredible support throughout the day.
