Give Local Bay 2023

Over $50,000 in Matching Funds and Prizes during 24-Hour Online Fundraiser

The Bay Area Community Foundation is thrilled to announce the ninth annual Give Local Bay taking place on May 2. Give Local Bay is a 24-hour online fundraiser to support local nonprofits in Bay and Arenac counties. This event, powered by presenting sponsor LiUNA-Local 1098, provides an opportunity to give where you live and make a difference in the lives of those in your community.

On May 2, individuals can donate to one of the 50+ participating organizations by visiting www.GiveLocalBay.org. Each donation earns additional funds from a $50,000 incentive pool from Messiah Lutheran Church in honor of Reverend Andreas Teich, the Paul Revard and Frances Santoro Family Fund and the Bay Area Community Foundation. An additional $3,250 in prizes will be offered to the nonprofits throughout the event; $2,500 of the prize pool is thanks to prize sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

“As vital members of our community, nonprofits play an essential role,” said Diane Mahoney, President & CEO of the Bay Area Community Foundation. “Through their provision of essential human services, as well as their creation of programs and opportunities that enhance the vibrancy of our area, nonprofits contribute significantly to the well-being and growth of our community.”

With an easy-to-use web portal, individuals can make gifts to multiple local nonprofits in one transaction. If uncertain which organization to support, gifts can be made to the incentive pool that will help all participating nonprofits. There is no limit on how much an individual can give—all donations help earn matching funds for the nonprofits. Everyone is encouraged to participate, and the minimum online donation amount is only $10.

Donations can be made all day on May 2 at www.GiveLocalBay.org or by calling 989-893-4438 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Supporters can also join the Bay Area Community Foundation during the “Sip, Sip Hooray for Give Local Bay” event by visiting Tri City Brewing Company on May 2 between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. For every drink purchased during this time, Tri City Brewing Company will donate $1 to support the nonprofit partners participating in Give Local Bay 2023. All drink donations will be added to the Give Local Bay incentive pool for an even greater impact.

Supporters can also participate in Give Local Bay by sharing Bay Area Community Foundation Facebook posts, voting in the online poll (givelocalbay.org/prizes) to help a nonprofit win a prize and participating in the selfie contest. In addition, I oversee all of BACF’s communications, bringing ideas to life through engaging stories and visuals. While upholding our brand identity, I strive to highlight the remarkable individuals in our community and the collaborative efforts that make Bay and Arenac counties exceptional places to live, work, and thrive.

Program Officer

I am proud to serve my community through my role at BACF. As a Program Officer, I collaborate with nonprofit, government, church, and school partners in Bay and Arenac counties to navigate our grant opportunities and find the right funding alignment. From project conception to post-award, I am your main contact for all things grants. Connecting organizations and donors who share the same vision and passion is at the heart of my work.

I am dedicated to supporting the organizations that work tirelessly to improve our community. Additionally, I provide capacity-building opportunities by hosting educational workshops, managing Catchafire—a volunteer platform connecting organizations with professional services at no cost—and offering technical assistance and resources to build strength in our nonprofit community.

As the Administrative Officer at BACF, my responsibilities include maintaining our comprehensive database, accurately documenting gifts, and collaborating with building vendors to maintain the historic Pere Marquette Depot.

I am committed to establishing well-documented processes that contribute to the ongoing success of BACF. My deep appreciation for the Pere Marquette Depot drives me to preserve this historic landmark as a source of price for our community, ensuring its legacy for future generations.
