On May 2nd, 2023, the Bay Area Community Foundation’s Give Local Bay event, powered by LiUNA-Local 1098, brought together the community to support 59 Bay and Arenac nonprofits who hold endowment funds at the Bay Area Community Foundation. In just 24 hours, the event raised over $178,000, highlighting the generosity and commitment of the local community towards building a brighter future for all.
The funds raised through Give Local Bay will be used to support these local nonprofits, helping them to build long-term growth and sustainability. Community donations were enhanced from a $50,000 incentive match provided by the Bay Area Community Foundation, the Paul Revard and Frances Santoro Fund and Messiah Lutheran Church in honor of Reverend Andreas Teich. Pre-giving day and giving day prizes amounting to $3,250 were also available, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan contributed $2,500 towards fund prizes for the event.
The Give Local Bay event was not just about fundraising, it was also a celebration of the community’s spirit of giving. Tri City Brewing Company held a “Sip, Sip Hooray for Give Local Bay” event, where a dollar from each beverage sold between 5 and 8 p.m. on May 2nd was donated towards the Give Local Bay incentive match pool to be distributed among the participating nonprofits. This initiative alone raised over $200.
The success of Give Local Bay is a testament to the strength and resilience of the Bay and Arenac counties community. The Bay Area Community Foundation is filled with gratitude for the community’s support and generosity towards local nonprofits, which help to build a brighter future for everyone.
The State Theatre of Bay City, Bay City Rowing Club, Ye Olde Courthouse/Arenac County Historical Society and Bay County Habitat for Humanity were the top organizations that raised the most money during the event. These organizations, along with the other participating nonprofits, will receive the funds raised to support their efforts to build stronger and more sustainable communities.
