New Mother Holding Baby

In 2017, the infant mortality rate—the rate of infant deaths per 1,000 live births—was 6.9 in Bay County, much higher than neighboring regions. Educating mothers and supporting the safety of the child can greatly reduce this rate.

That’s why the Women’s Philanthropy Circle recently awarded a grant to Great Lakes Bay Health Centers’ women’s care site, an organization that provides services to all women, particularly those who are uninsured or are low-income. The grant will provide portable cribs and car seats to mothers in Bay County who receive prenatal care at the clinic.

The Women’s Philanthropy Circle at Bay Area Community Foundation is passionate about supporting women and children in Bay County, and award grants twice a year to support these initiatives.

The group gathers four times a year for food, friendship, and a side of philanthropy. Each member contributes $1,000 a year, half of which is granted out that year and half of which goes to the endowment at BACF to grow the impact potential for many years to come. Every member is encouraged to bring their own ideas for needs in the community, and together, the women decide on which projects to help fund.
